Melissa Owens Kaley

Artistic Director/Teacher

Melissa Owens Kaley (she/her) is an Associate Professor of Theatre at Converse University. As a theatre teacher, she offers a safe space to explore the art of theatre, and for students to find or expand their unique place within it.

Melissa first experienced the Michael Chekhov technique while studying with Mark Monday in the MFA Returning Professional Acting program at Kent State University, and is a member of the inaugural Great Lakes Michael Chekhov Consortium (GLMCC) certification cohort (MOD 1-2011!). She has also worked extensively with teachers such as Joanna Merlin, David Zinder, and Lenard Petit through certification classes with MICHA, the Michael Chekhov Association, as well as MC classes in Canada, Chicago, London, and Ireland.

Melissa became a member of the GLMCC Board of Directors in 2021 and enjoys helping to create, support, and sustain this inclusive ensemble, utilizing and teaching concepts and tools which train students to be eternally curious about the interconnections of our bodies and our imaginations, and how our ability to recognize, track, and manipulate these circumstances can have a profound effect on our abilities as actors (and humans) to transform ourselves and thereby, our audiences.
